Butterflies Method for Health is a timely book for today’s world by Dr. Mita Lodh, bringing back ancient wisdom as basics to make modern medicine even more successful. It urges us to rediscover and embrace natural healing knowledge which is so intuitive, that is, fix the root cause by understanding the qualities of symptoms, foods, and activities. We wonder why such knowledge gets bypassed in today’s approach to healthcare. The book’s butterflies framework is easy to understand and follow. As we get acquainted with the method, we will use it as our first line of defense and offense against health symptoms instead of immediately turning to over-the-counter pills and prescription drugs. The Butterflies Method is time-tested, proven through extensive research (more on this below), and illustrated through the success examples illustrated on the Home page.
The book trains us to patiently understand and address root causes of symptoms instead of seeking superficial quick fixes. We learn the basics about the qualities of foods and activities and how they directly impact health. We learn to treat our unique symptoms (curative care) with daily choices of foods and activities. We also learn how to self-doctor each day to avoid getting new symptoms (preventive care) in ways that work early on in the pathological process. Such preventive care is “truer”, that is, earlier than most of what constitutes prevention in today's primary care visit where diagnostic tests identify abnormalities after the fact. The book clarifies that we do not have to discontinue our current physician care because the Butterflies Method is compatible with modern medicine - we will always have the wonders of modern medicine to turn to for supplementation or in advanced stages of health deterioration.
After addressing the above basics in detail, the book next covers additional topics that pertain to specific symptoms and advanced interventions (the tree image below conveys the broad scope of the Butterflies Method).
Appendix H of the book also briefly describes macro-level initiatives that individuals and organizations can undertake to help build a future that promotes countrywide adoption of such self-empowered daily diagnostics, prevention and treatment.
The book cautions, as expected with all modes of natural healing which address root causes, that results can take time. We are accordingly invited to embark on our gentle journey back to optimal health with sufficient patience and perseverance.
Note: While the Butterflies Method’s framework is new and efficient, none of the underlying concepts are new - they are time-tested and have existed for millennia as the science of Ayurveda*. What the book newly and very successfully accomplishes is that it presents the concepts in a language, format, and sequence that is easier for the modern world to understand.
The Butterflies Method is primarily rooted in Ayurveda, the system of healthcare that originated in India millennia ago from the same traditions that gifted us yoga, and is regarded as the mother of all health sciences. Ayurveda comprises a large body of knowledge about physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health. Its clinical effectiveness is chronicled in thousands of research papers that have been published in various peer-reviewed journals (some included in the list below). The Butterflies Method for Health is a starter book that provides a doorway into the vast world of Ayurveda by introducing concepts in a particular sequence, reducing multi-dimensional theories into a simplified framework for the beginner, and fitting otherwise-voluminous information into concise ranked formats (butterfly shapes).
